Welcome to Kalai King.com

Kalai King is a singer-songwriter, actor, musician and writer based in Wilmington, Delaware. Accepted to Julliard for theatre, Kalai instead attended the University of Delaware where he was an Applied Voice major and Theory and Composition minor. After paying his way through school playing popular “cover” songs in the local bars, Kalai made his living as a singer-songwriter and touring solo acoustic performer, releasing 8 albums. He moved to Los Angeles where he played with the elite of the Americana Roots-Rock world, became a television writer and played a lot of beach volleyball.

Now back on the East Coast, Kalai is working as a solo acoustic artist once again, while pursuing a career in theatre, television, film, commercial and voice over work.

Just returned from a fantastic tour of Ireland with quick stop overs in London and Amsterdam!  Recap, pics and video to come.  Until then, check out the few posted on the "PHOTOS" page.

Solo Acoustic Performance

Brandywine Arts Festival

Wilmington, Delaware

1:30 PM - 2:15PM

I got to play with a great group of musicians in February to raise funds for a terrific original music venue here in Delaware, World Cafe Live at the Queen Theatre.  This is the 4th year we've performed "Shine a Light on the Queen" and it SOLD OUT once again - that's over 1000 tickets at $65 - $250 a pop, a LOT of money raised!!!   For the past 3 years, I, along with 40 - 60 other of the best musicians and singers Delaware has to offer have performed the songs of The Rolling Stones. This year we switched it up and performed some of the biggest hits of 1975!  It was F. U.N!!!  As (one of) the resident "country" artist, I was tapped to deliver Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy".  Not as easy a task as you may think.  I certainly was surprised by its deceptive simplicity.  I am now a HUGE Campbell fan.

Next year...1976!  Muskrat Love, anyone???

Here are some photos from the event.  Evidently I made the cover and earned some ink, thank to this rhinestone "Nudie" suit I made the night before. Thanks to Dad for imparting his graphic design wisdom and Mom for her Theatre Wardrobe Designer mojo.  (And Gram Parsons for the inspiration!)

Kalai King is excited to announce his partnership with Peter Coe Talent & Modeling Agency!  Mr. Coe will represent Kalai in his acting and voice over careers in the Greater Philadelphia and New York regions.   Recently, Kalai shot a commercial for Carl Doubet Jewelers and he can be seen in the upcoming major motion picture "Creed", the 7th installment of the Rocky franchise starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan set for a November 24th, 2015 release date.  He'll be performing next month at Kelly's Logan House in Wilmington, Delaware with Old Baltimore Speedway backing him on a few songs as part of their album release party.  Details to follow.

Kalai has been tapped to compose the score for a full-length feature film that is scheduled to hit the festival circuit in the Autumn of 2015.  Stay Tuned!

4th Annual Shine A Light On The Queen Benefit Concert - A Tribute to 1975

World Cafe Live - Wilmington, 500 N. Market St., Wilmington, DE 19801

4th Annual Shine A Light On The Queen Benefit Concert - A Tribute to 1975

Tickets go on sale January 2nd for the 4th Annual Shine A Light On The Queen - A Tribute to 1975 Concert to be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 on the Copeland Theater stage at World Cafe Live at The Queen. Doors Open 7:00pm; Show Time: 8:30pm.

The evening revisits the "best songs from 1975.... one of the greatest years in music, ever....” with more than forty of Delaware’s best and brightest musicians. Each and every song will feature a different lineup of the area’s most talented, influential and prominent musicians representing multiple generations of Wilmington’s music scene. Musician, Rob Grant says, “For the artists, the opportunity to work with so many other great musicians, many of whom were strangers before we started out, of different ages and genres, is exciting and fun. It allows us to break out of our own little worlds and work on something truly unique. Of course, the energy from the crowd is amazing for us and we really appreciate the work the Light Up The Queen Foundation is doing, and are hoping to see even more music education programs instituted.” Shine A Light On The Queen promises to be another unforgettable evening and a celebration of musicians who have played locally in Wilmington for decades.

Love Stinks Party @ the Vine

The Wicked Vine, 1934 W. 6th Street, Wilmington, DE 19806

Kalai will be playing solo acoustic tonight at The Wicked Vine (formerly Blue Parrot) and there's a rumor out there it's a special evening. So in honor of Big Love day, he'll be learning a bunch of anti-Love songs and playin' 'em all night long. Special guest artists sitting in and if you play, c'mon down and play a couple. The more musicians playing, the better the chance of someone getting lucky! Oh yeah, couples allowed if you're one of THEM.

Grilled Cheese & Craft Beer Tasting feat. Kalai King

World Cafe Live - Wilmington, 500 N. Market St., Wilmington, DE 19801

We have taken two of the best things on earth and paired them together – Grilled Cheese and Craft Beer – and paired them together in unexpected and delicious ways.

That's right, there's no American Cheese and Wonder Bread in sight. Instead, we use the best quality locally sourced ingredients for these creations, as well as hard to find imports from around the world.

How does a Yards Saison paired with Old Bay cheddar on brioche, with a mini crab cake sound?

Or maybe an Italian Cacio de Lazio on Herbes de Provence bread with tomato & kalamata olive puree along with New Holland Brewing’s Golden Cap Saison Ale?

If that isn't good enough, after four delectable cheese and beer courses, we finish off with a dessert to die for…perhaps a Victory Storm King Stout Strawberry shortcake with drunken berries and fresh orange whipped cream, or a Darkhorse Raspberry Ale sea salt chocolate mousse...

Hungry yet? These are just some of the items we've served at past events (which always sell out), so don't miss out on what's coming up next!

SOLD OUT (Sorry) Age limit: 21+
